Notice of Race

Open Regatta DATE 2025.

About Me.

Loch Morlich Sailing Club will be the Organising Authority for racing on Loch Morlich on the 10th August 2024.

Racing is open to all.

£10-00 per single handed entry

£15-00 for double handed

Five races scheduled on the day.

Scoring arrangements will be 1 point for 1st place, 2 points for second place, 3 points for 3rd and so on.

One race is required to be completed to constitute a series and award of trophies. When fewer than 3 races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores. When 4 or more races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.

Racing will be governed by the rules as defined in the RYA Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS).

A boat that did not start, did not sail the course, did not finish, retired, or was disqualified shall be scored on the total number of boats racing +1.

In the event of a tied score, between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worse and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boats(s) with the best score(s). Excluded scores shall not be used.

The latest published RYA data on handicaps will be used.

For boats not having a Portsmouth Number published by the RYA, the Race Committee will allocate an estimated Trial Number.

The 1st race will be at 12:00 on the 10th August with briefing at 11:00.

Registration from 10:00

Sailors intending to participate in a race shall complete the entry form prior to racing.

There will be one start for all classes in accordance with Part 3, Rule 26;

5 minute warning signal, 4 minute preparatory signal, 1 minute warning, START.

By signing the sign in sheet each sailor agrees to be bound by the Racing Rules of Sailing, the Sailing Instructions, and the relevant parts of the Club Handbook, and to have valid insurance to participate in the racing of not less than £3,000,000 unless sailing LMSC boats.

Sailors are reminded that it is their responsibility to ensure their equipment is in compliance with their class rules. For classes such as Lasers that do not have measurement certificates, sailors who “sign on” for a race shall be deemed to be confirming that their boats conform to class rules. All other boats competing shall have a valid measurement certificate issued under their relevant class association procedures.

Courses for racing will be around the club marks as shown with course being shown on the notice board outside club.

The penalties for breaking a rule of Part 2 of RRS will apply, ie two-turn penalty:

Rule 4 of the Racing Rules of Sailing states: “The responsibility for a boat’s decision to participate in a race or to continue racing is hers alone.”

Sailing is by its nature an unpredictable sport and therefore involves an element of risk. By taking part in any of the events covered by this notice of race, each competitor agrees and acknowledges that:

  1. They are aware of the inherent element of risk involved in the sport and accept responsibility for the exposure of themselves, their crew and their boat to such inherent risk whilst taking part in the event;

  2. They are responsible for the safety of themselves, their crew, their boat and their other property whether afloat or ashore;

  3. They accept responsibility for any injury, damage or loss to the extent caused by their own actions or omissions;

  4. Their boat is in good order, equipped to sail in the event and they are fit to participate.

  5. The provision of a race management team, patrol boats, umpires and other officials and volunteers by the organiser does not relieve competitors of their own responsibilities.

  6. The provision of patrol boat cover is limited to such assistance, particularly in extreme weather conditions, as can be practically provided in the circumstances.
